Set in the Anima Squad universe, Swarm is the latest limited-time game mode in League of Legends. This mode tasks you with defending humanity against an ever-increasing horde of Primordian monsters.
As you play through the game and level up your characters, you may find yourself yearning for a more challenging experience. Thankfully, Swarm comes with three different difficulty tiers—but you’ll have to unlock them first.
Here is everything you need to know about increasing the difficulty of Swarm in LoL Swarm.
How to unlock Hard difficulty in LoL Swarm
When you first play LoL Swarm, you’ll only be able to play on the Story Mode difficulty. This is the easiest version of the game, but you may still find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies. Fortunately, you can upgrade your character by spending gold which will make even the toughest of challenges easier.
After you complete the story mode by defeating Aatrox on The Beachhead you’ll unlock the Hard difficulty. The Beachhead is the fourth and final mission in the story, so you’ll have to play through all four maps until you can unlock Hard difficulty.
How to unlock Extreme Difficulty in LoL Swarm
Once you’ve unlocked Hard mode, you’ll have to play through each mission for a second time. On hard difficulty you’ll face monsters that deal increased damage and Bel’Veth trials will spawn, tempting you with risky rewards.
To unlock the Extreme difficulty in Swarm, you must defeat all four bosses on Hard mode. These bosses are:
- Rek’Sai
- Briar
- Bel’Veth
- Aatrox
Once you defeat these four Primordian bosses, you’ll have access to the Extreme difficulty. Thankfully, there is no higher difficulty after Extreme, so you don’t have to worry about unlocking anything else. If you plan on taking on the Extreme difficulty we recommend playing with a team of dependable friends, as you’ll need some serious coordination to succeed.
