The 2019 LEC Summer Split finals will be held in Athens, marking the first time Riot’s signature European competition will land on Greek soil.

Riot announced that the finals will take place from Sept. 7 to 9 in the historic city and home to the Olympics. It’s an exciting development for a country that’s previously hosted tournaments for other games, such as CS:GO.

Greece hasn’t historically been a hotbed of European League of Legends, especially compared to previous finals sites like Rotterdam or Madrid. But it is home to a passionate player base. And who could forget bot laner Konstantinos-Napoleon “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou, one of the most famous League of Legends pros ever?

FORG1VEN has yet to be signed to a roster since being discharged from his mandatory Greek military service. He’s put his eye on returning to competitive form, however, and perhaps the prospect of playing in front of his home crowd will give him extra motivation to join a team for the Summer Split. The free agency signing deadline for the split is Aug. 5, which means FORG1VEN has just under two months to join a team if he wants a shot at the finals in Athens.
