League of Legends’ traditional midseason update has finally arrived and will be touching on everything from old champions to role-based items and overpowered runes as Riot Games’ developers take big swings at the current meta for Patch 14.10.
Riot is bringing several big changes to League in Patch 14.10, including the overhauling of AD carry items, which should impact every champion that gets picked at that position. Additionally, several runes are being reworked and others are getting totally removed (rest in peace, Lethal Tempo). Corki is getting a midscope update and four lucky champions are being bestowed with Faerie Court skins, too.
Patch 14.10 will also mark the beginning of the second ranked split of the year. In 2024, there are three ranked splits, and this upcoming patch will mark the first official page-turn of the season. Be sure to get in all your grinding before this May patch goes live (or don’t, if you want a fresh start).
Here’s everything about League’s Patch 14.10 update.
When will League Patch 14.10 go live?
League Patch 14.10 is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, May 15, according to Riot’s official 2024 patch plans. This time of year sees League get its mid-season updates, so the actual installation could take a bit longer than usual as the developers add all the impending changes.
Here are all the key patching times:
- 3pm CT (NA)
- 5am GMT (EU West)
- 3am CET (EU North East)
- 8am KR (Korea)
As mentioned, expect several hours of downtime once patching begins. Matchmaking will be disabled across all League queues three hours before the update.
What’s new in League Patch 14.10?
AD carry items get complete overhaul
The biggest systematic change coming in Patch 14.10 will be the wide-sweeping changes coming to AD carry itemization. Although many players have been positively impacted by the massive item changes Riot made at the start of the year, ADCs have still been lagging behind based on the League devs’ metrics.
To bring the role back up to the curve, all Legendary-quality critical strike items will give five percent more crit across the board, while all AD items will only give bonuses to a max of two scaling stats instead of the usual three.
Corki mid-scope takes flight
Corki, the Daring Bombardier, will receive significant ability changes in Patch 14.10. While he’s not a terrible laner, he’s far from the best nor a highly sought-after champion; in fact, League players have dubbed him boring to watch.
This time around, however, Riot has made some major changes to his kit that will force him back into his traditional marksman role in the bottom lane, introducing new mechanics that will add incentives so that players will auto-attack more during his regular ability cadence to gain access to more charges on his ultimate.
He’s also losing a major part of his kit as a result of his shift to regular AD carry duties with the removal of his Package passive. But this could mean an important return to popularity among casual solo queue players who avoid playing Corki because of his lackluster playstyle with poking and zoning with rockets and other abilities. He did lose some mobility, which could take some time for Corki mains to adjust to.
Summoner spells are getting refreshed
Summoner spells are also getting some quick tweaks that could shift some of their usage through the new patch, including some big changes to popular choices like Exhaust, Barrier, and Cleanse.
For example, Ghost is getting a significant nerf in both cooldown and duration, while Exhaust is gaining a considerable boost in its slow effect for a 30-second increase with its cooldown. Cleanse is also getting a 30-second cooldown increase but will give more tenacity when activated, while Barrier will soak up more damage in the later stages of a game.
Rune removal: So long to Predator, Lethal Tempo
Two runes, Predator and Lethal Tempo, are being sunset in Patch 14.10, though the reasons behind the surprise May deletions are quite different for each.
In the case of Predator, Riot felt as though its impact was minimal enough to a point where it could be safely removed without any significant loss. Lethal Tempo, however, was simply seeing too much usage, and Riot felt it was affecting gameplay in an unhealthy way by letting certain champions circumvent investments into attack speed items. With that in mind, Riot reached the consensus the best way to deal with the popular rune was to remove it.
Split Two heralds fresh ranked play
When Patch 14.10 goes live, the second ranked split of the season will go live alongside it. On May 15, the ranked rewards track will refresh and your rank will be reset in anticipation of a new ranked climb. The second ranked split of 2024 will last approximately until sometime in September; there are three ranked splits this year, as opposed to last year, when there were only two.
Faerie Court brought back to life with extra pixie dusting
Four champions are getting Faerie Court skins: Lux, Lillia, Soraka, and Tristana. These four champions will join the already existing seven Faerie Court skins in League, bringing the skin line to 11 skins.
All four of these Faerie Court skins have a bright blue hue to them, complete with the magic, pixie-like effects attached to each spell that players have gotten accustomed to when it comes to this legacy line of skins.
Here are all the new Faerie Court skins coming in this patch:
- Faerie Court Lux (1,350 RP)
- Faerie Court Lillia (1,350 RP)
- Faerie Court Soraka (1,350 RP)
- Faerie Court Tristana (1,350 RP)
These skins will go live during the Patch 14.10 cycle.
