Misfits crush SK Gaming in 22 minutes with a 15,000 gold lead

So much for a front contender.

After SK Gaming gave Fnatic such a hard time yesterday on the LEC’s debut day, many fans were taken back by the fact that this rookie-centric roster could hang with one of the most prestigious teams heading into 2019. As it turns out, though, it’s possible Fnatic just aren’t as good this year as many thought they were.

SK Gaming went up against another frontrunner today in Misfits Gaming, and after that game yesterday, it seemed possible SK had a chance even against the new hyped roster of Paul “sOAZ” Boyer, Kang “GorillA” Beom-hyeon, and Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten. But they didn’t. Not only did Misfits win, but it was ugly.

Misfits rolled through SK in one of the fastest games in professional European League of Legends history, and the fastest of the LEC so far in 22 minutes. At the 15-minute mark, Misfits were up almost 10,000 gold, nine kills, and three towers. This one wasn’t even remotely close, and SK Gaming looked totally outclassed in every sense of the word.

Fortunately for SK, it’s only week one of the new league. Things happen, especially stomps like this one. This isn’t the end of the world, and we doubt they’re taking it very hard at all. Both of the teams tied for first place now, Misfits and G2 Esports, have bowled over almost every team they’ve faced. It’s probably just going to take a bit of practice before other teams figure out how to beat them. At least, they certainly haven’t figured it out yet.

The LEC’s first week ended today with G2 and Misfits tied for first at 2-0. But, for the most part, the rest of the league seems up for grabs and very competitive. It should be an exciting season.
