The 2023 League of Legends World Championship is in full swing, and it turns out picking one specific side means that team has better odds of winning the match.
According to League pro play stats site, Gol.gg, the blue side at the Worlds 2023 main event so far has a 76.7 percent win rate while the red side is only at 23.3 percent.
It’s important to say that normally teams, when they can, are choosing this side. While you might say that it’s just better teams are choosing the blue side, this actually has to do with pick and ban order, and access to neutral objectives such as the Rift Herald and Baron Nashor.
For example, while the red team has to run all the way around the Baron Pit, the blue team can simply walk out their jungle. This, naturally, puts the red team in a sticky situation because they have to walk into the blue team, and the situation gets worse if they lack vision.
While draft may not play such a huge role in your ranked games, every step the pros take is of the utmost importance, even the pick and ban order. Blue side gets the first pick, and because of that the team can grab any priority pick they were eyeing. So, the blue side team can leave a couple of OP picks free, and force the red side team to ban champions they didn’t want to.
Worlds 2023 lasts until Nov. 19, after Riot Games names the World Champion. Currently, the first stage of Swiss format has been wrapped up and will continue on Oct. 26 as the best teams battle it out for the knockout stage.
