Chinese League of Legends team Qiao Gu Reapers have been acquired by Newbee, and signed Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao as their AD Carry.
Newbee is predominantly a Dota 2 organization, known for winning The International 4 Championship in 2014. Its acquisition of Qiao Gu was reported by Chinese Esports Athletes, with Newbee confirming the news and announcing Jian Zi-Hao’s signing.
“This is a strong combination,” Qiao Gu Reapers manager Li “LiNkO” Lin-Ke said in a statement. “QG have good players, but Newbee is a wealthy club with a good management system. I believe that after these events we can achieve the desired results.”
While Newbee already have a League Secondary Pro League (LSPL) team it has apparently been looking to acquire a League Pro League (LPL) team for a while, with Qiao Gu meeting its needs—they placed second in the LPL Summer Season this year, after forming late last year. Newbee’s LSPL team will continue competing for a spot in the LPL.
Jian Zi-Hao comes to the team from OMG, which he joined after playing for Star Horn Royal Club (formerly Royal Club) from 2012 to 2014. His contract buyout price was apparently very high, with OMG previously saying it was a seemingly unreachable figure, possibly around $7 million.
Qiao Gu’s current roster for the 2016 season consists of Bao “V” Bo, Baek “Swift” Da-Hoon, Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang, Jian Zi-Hao, and Zhang “TcT” Hong-Wei. Former starting AD Carry Yu “TnT” Rui will be moved to the substitute position to make room for Jian Zi-Hao.
