Riot Games senior design manager and UX lead on Teamfight Tactics Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer replied to a series of fan-submitted questions on Twitter yesterday, addressing a few concerns about League’s newest game mode.
Earlier this week, Riot revealed Teamfight Tactics, League’s new autobattler game mode. The round-based strategy mode will pit eight players against each other in a free-for-all race, and the one who chooses the best combination of champions, items, and battle formations wins.
Around 50 League of Legends champions will be available upon release, according to SapMagic, but more playable characters will be added to the game. Skins won’t be usable right away, but Riot may be creating alternative variations for pre-existing skins (think Glacial vs. Blaze Annie).
Fans can expect Teamfight Tactics to join the live servers alongside the release of Patch 9.13 on June 25. League’s newest game mode will likely be hitting the Public Beta Environment on June 18 to give players the chance to test it out early, according to SapMagic.

Recent reports hinted at a mobile League of Legends game that’s now in development, and the recent reveal of Teamfight Tactics led many fans to believe this game may be it. SapMagic cleared the air, however, saying that while there are no plans for a mobile version of Teamfight Tactics, the developer may consider a mobile version of the game mode later on down the road.
Riot will be releasing more information about the new game mode in the upcoming weeks.
