Before the 2019 LEC Spring Split semifinals begin, Riot has acknowledged the most outstanding young player of the spring. There were so many talented newcomers to the league who were all deserving of this season’s Rookie of the Split award, but one player stood tall above the rest.
SK Gaming’s Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek has been named the 2019 LEC Rookie of the Split. The jungler shone brighter than any rookie out on Summoner’s Rift this season, with his flashy playmaking skills and fearless attitude against any team he faced. He helped lead SK Gaming to a playoff berth and although they couldn’t get past the veteran roster of Splyce, his efforts were clearly noticed by the League of Legends world.
This season, Selfmade wasn’t just one of the best rookies in the LEC, but he was also one of the best junglers in the league. His playstyle was incredibly aggressive and it showed as he collected the second-most kills among LEC junglers with 50 on the season. He also had an impressive 39-percent first blood rate, which was good enough for third among junglers in the league.
Selfmade’s early game was also very strong—he was in the top three for average gold difference at 10 minutes, average experience difference at 10 minutes, and average CS difference at 10 minutes among European junglers as well.
He had a huge effect on how his team operated—they relied on him to get ahead during the beginning stages of many of their matches. With 74.5-percent kill participation, he was a definite win condition for SK Gaming. Of course, there are still some kinks in his armor that need to be worked out. With time and hard work, however, he could become another household name in Europe.
