One of the top teams in the North American League Championship Series in the last year may be looking to sell its spot in the premier competition in League of Legends.
Team Impulse, which finished third in the 2015 Summer Split, has been considering its options for the 2016 season, and selling the team is one of them, according to sources close to the organization. After opening itself to offers, the team has been approached by at least one potential buyer. But it hasn’t made any decisions on whether to sell, and team manager Alex Gu declined to comment on this story.
Team Impulse joined the LCS before the 2015 Spring Split as a rebrand of the team’s old organization, LMQ. Impulse took fourth in the Spring Split after falling to Team Solomid in the semifinal of the playoffs. With a playoff bid, the team had a chance to improve on their fourth-place finish in the Summer Split. But then they suffered a blow when star mid laner Yu “Xiaoweixiao” Xian was banned from competing for six months after admitting to elo boosting while in North America.
The state of the lineup is unclear heading into the 2016 season, and that could be a contributing factor as the organization considers its options. With former mid laner Xiaoweixiao back in China after his ban, the team recruited Austin “Gate” Yu to start the playoffs. Gate had been playing in the support role ahead of Adrian “Adrian” Ma, who stepped down citing a lack of confidence in his performance.
