Team Liquid tops off its North American League of Legends Championship Series starting lineup with top laner Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong, it announced earlier today.
Formerly of Cloud9, Impact’s 2017 season was filled with highs and lows. In spring, Impact split playing time with Cloud9’s other top laner, Jeon “Ray” Ji-won. Ray usually started matches, but if the young top laner faltered, or the team lost game one, Impact would make his debut.
In summer, Impact returned to being Cloud9’s primary top laner. But despite this return, Impact faced issues within his play, and struggled against the likes of Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell and Lee “Flame” Ho-jong. Come the World Championship, Impact’s issue somewhat cleared up, however.
The first time he’s been a free agent since he joined Cloud9 in May of 2016, Impact apparently turned down an offer from his former team and three-time World Champions, SK Telecom T1, according to a report by Inven Global. Impact reportedly declined the offer for two reasons—insufficient salary, and the heavy responsibility that comes with being a player on SKT.
Now with its starting roster completed, Team Liquid will most likely look to build up its academy roster. It is currently unknown whether the other players contracted to Team Liquid, who aren’t on the starting lineup, will play for the team’s academy roster.
