In an offseason of change, another League of Legends Champion Series (LCS) team has sold their organization to make way for a new franchise.
Team Vitality has acquired an LCS spot in Europe from long-time League franchise Gambit Gaming, announcing their first signing, Raymond “kaSing” Tsang, on Red Bull esports yesterday.
Last year Tsang joined H2k Gaming and led them to consecutive third-place finishes in the LCS. This offseason he tried out for Team SoloMid, competing with them at IEM San Jose, before the team found a different player. Now he’ll compete for Vitality, a new potential powerhouse in Europe.
Vitality is a French organization featuring French Call of Duty and Halo teams, but they’ve expanded in a big way this season by buying into the biggest league in esports. The team also revealed new partners Steelseries and Red Bull, likely giving them the firepower to get into the league and build a competitive lineup.
Their first acquisition, kaSing, is a solid base on which to build. While the rest of the lineup has yet to be announced, plenty of talented players, like former Gambit Gaming top laner Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet, a fellow French player, or KaSing’s bottom lane partner on H2k, Petter “Hjärnan” Freyschuss, are still available.
As for Gambit Gaming, their departure from League of Legends is the end of an era. The team stormed through Europe as Moscow Five and later Gambit Gaming before the rigorous travel schedule required by the LCS ground down the Russian roster. After a lackluster year, Gambit is now bowing out of the LCS. The organization will reveal their future plans on a later date, but for now we’ll get to see Team Vitality debut in League of Legends.
