We’re well past the point of League of Legends being the only Riot Games title. Riot has, aside from League, developed and published instant hits like VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runterra as well as lesser-known games like Astro Teemo and Cho’Gath Eats the World. As these games grew in popularity and the number of workers maintaining them, Riot sought opportunities to explore the vast Runeterran world.
Hence, the rise of Riot Forge, a third-party publisher within Riot. Since its foundation in 2019, Riot Forge has published two major games set in the League universe—Ruined King and Hextech Mayhem.
While we are losing our patience grinding ranks in League, Riot Forge is cooking up three new games to come in 2023—Song of Nunu, CONV/RGENCE, and The Mageseeker.
At 2020’s annual The Game Awards, Riot Forge revealed CONV/RGENCE: A League of Legends Story, an action-platformer game developed by Double Stallion, who made Speed Brawl and Big Action Mega Fight! Since then, there’s not been much talk about the release of CONV/RGENCE, but after Riot Forge announced The Mageseeker on Feb. 15, we now know more about what the future holds for CONV/RGENCE.
What does CONV/RGENCE have to do with League?
Although it will be in a completely new art style and video game genre, CONV/RGENCE takes place in the vast world of Runeterra, where players will join Ekko on an adventure to save Zaun from certain doom and destruction in the near future.
Players will explore both cities in this 2D platformer as Ekko works with his friends to protect his home while running into friends and foes alike. He’ll also encounter a handful of familiar champions from the Summoner’s Rift, including Jinx, Camille, and even a grown-up version of himself that has returned to the past to prevent a horrible future.
Whether he’s smacking around enemies with his trusty baton or zipping back in time to redo a fight gone wrong, this game promises to be an exciting addition to the ever-expanding lore of League‘s magical and mysterious universe.
When is CONV/RGENCE releasing?
After the official reveal back in 2020, CONV/RGENCE was been delayed by an entire year in order to give developers a chance to hone down all the details, and buff out any bugs, glitches, and other problems that could arise if they left the title to its old release date.
It was set for a summer release, but it looks like League lore fans will get their hands on this time-twisting adventure a little early: Riot has revealed CONV/RGENCE will now be released on Tuesday, May 23.
