Fuel is a valuable resource in Manor Lords that will create problems for you and your people if you run out. Here’s a fuel efficiency guide to keep production and heat going at all times.
The winter months are cold in Manor Lords, requiring firewood to keep your townspeople warm. Shops and places of business will also use fuel, which is why running low can evolve into a disaster. The best form of early game fuel comes from firewood. But firewood isn’t the only option in Manor Lords; you can use Charcoal too.
Who and what needs fuel in Manor Lords?
Everyone in your town and most establishments will need fuel to operate efficiently. A Tavern, for example, needs Malt from a Malt House that was originally Barley from a Farm Field. Without enough fuel, turning the Barley into Malt won’t happen. The same applies to other industry buildings like Clay Furnace, Smithy, and Bloomery.
Your people need fuel to stay warm and eat. These are two essentials you can’t cheat on in Manor Lords. Each Burgage plot consumes one food and one fuel per month. Fuel usage is doubled during the winter months, which is why having a surplus of at least 12 months is needed.
How to maximize firewood in Manor Lords
A Woodcutters Lodge is the only way to create firewood for your village in Manor Lords and it should be one of the first buildings you construct. Assigning a Family to the Woodcutters Lodge full-time is a must, which will deplete the number of Families available. The family will establish a stall in the Marketplace once it is built.
Losing a Family from your pool of labor workers is hard during the early stages of Manor Lords but the payoff is worth it as long as the population doesn’t exceed productivity. By my seventh year in Manor Lords, with a family always assigned to the Woodcutters Lodge, I had a 21-month surplus of fuel. If trees in your region aren’t abundantly found nearby, be sure to have a Family run the Forresters Hut seasonally.
How to burn Charcoal in Manor Lords
Using Charcoal will increase your fuel efficiency in Manor Lords but it comes at a cost. A Charcoal Kin is available through the Development Tree when you choose Charcoal Burning. This will cost you a Development Point.
If trees in your region grow abundantly, I recommend holding off on Charcoal Burning and investing your Development Points into more pressing areas. Using a Charcoal Kin will turn one firewood into two pieces of Charcoal, doubling your fuel efficiency.
