As the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater approaches, speculation on the fourth Metal Gear Solid game’s future has only grown. But we might now have an answer, as Konami has very directly teased that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is coming to modern consoles.

Speaking with IGN today, Noriaki Okamura, producer of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, teased the potential release of Metal Gear Solid 4 on modern platforms, either as a standalone or through the second volume of the Master Collection. “We definitely are aware of this situation with MGS4,” Okamura said, adding that “we can’t really say too much at the moment with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots!” Yes, we probably can, or at least we hope that our connection proves to be what everyone wants: A modern re-release of one of the best stealth-action games in recent memory.

Okamura didn’t only have an obvious teaser to throw our way. He revealed Konami is “internally concerned” about the future of the Metal Gear franchise and, to everyone’s dismay, added how he cannot give off any more information at the moment. “Stay tuned,” he said.

Hype for Metal Gear has never been greater, fueled mostly by the upcoming release of the Snake Eater remake. So far, Metal Gear Solid 4 remains the only Metal Gear title locked to a single platform—the PlayStation 3—where it has spent 16 very long years. Vol. One of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection ported Metal Gear 1-3, but left the series’ chronological closure out. It’s only logical to conclude Konami is planning a second volume that will, hopefully, include Guns of the Patriots as part of the package and finally free the game from its PS3 limbo.
