Originally, game director Naoki Yoshida said during Live Letter 71 that Island Sanctuaries were going to be released in Patch 6.25. But in Live Letter 72, the developers revealed that it actually was set for 6.2. It is unclear whether the announcement of them coming in 6.25 was a mistake or if Island Sanctuaries’ development finished sooner than expected.

When do Island Sanctuaries release in FFXIV?

Island Sanctuaries were released in Patch 6.2 on Aug. 23. With the update came a lot of other content including new trials, new eight-person raids, new main scenario quests, and more.

Players have already spent almost the entire day cultivating and updating their island. It will take some time since a lot of the upgrade components of the island take real-world hours to complete once the tutorial is finished. The best form of EXP for the island is done in the workshop, which also takes hours to complete, but the good news is that all players have to do is schedule it and then walk away. Players don’t even have to be online to be consistently upgrading their islands.

Crop cultivation is also something that is done on the island, as well as having a new place to chill out with friends. Each player gets their own island for free from Tataru, and the quest line to get to the island doesn’t take much time to complete at all. Those looking to unlock their islands simply need to have completed Endwalker to the point where they have reached Old Sharlayan and then find the Clueless Crier to begin their journey to their little slice of paradise.
