The 30th Magic: The Gathering World Championship will take place in Las Vegas during MagicCon, featuring gameplay in Duskmourn: House of Horror Limited Draft and Standard Constructed.

The MTG World Championship is returning to Las Vegas in 2024, featuring 116 players. All competitors earned a seed at the tournament through top eight finishes at last year’s World Championship, players with 36 or more match points from the Pro Tour 2023-2024 season, the top finisher at a Regional Championship, top two finishers from each MTG Arena Championship, top two finishers from MTGO Champion Showcase tournaments, top 32 ranked players, and special invites. Here’s what we know so far about the 30th Magic World Championship, according to WotC.

When is the MTG 2024 World Championship?

The 2024 Magic World Championship will run from Oct. 25 to 27. Over those three days, players will compete in Duskmourn Draft and Standard Constructed rounds. MagicCon Vegas will also be running simultaneously, featuring a variety of tournaments that aren’t broadcast.

How to watch the MTG 2024 World Championship?

An official WotC broadcast will run during all three days of the MTG 2024 World Championship through Twitch. No broadcasters and start times of the broadcast have been announced at time of writing. Drafts are slated to begin in Las Vegas at 11am CT.

What is the MTG 2024 World Championship format?

Days one and two of the MTG 2024 World Championship will feature a total of 14 Swiss rounds with play through Duskmourn Draft and Standard Constructed. The final day is only Standard Constructed top eight.

  • Oct. 25 will feature three rounds of Duskmourn Draft and four rounds of Standard Constructed. All players with 12 or more match points advance to Saturday, Oct. 26.
  • Oct. 26 will feature three rounds of Duskmourn Draft and four rounds of Standard Constructed. Only the top eight advance and any player who hits 12 match wins automatically advance to day three and doesn’t have to finish playing on day two.
  • Oct. 27 will feature the top eight playing Standard Constructed. All playoff matches are best three out of five, with players accessing sideboards after game two is complete.

What is the MTG 2024 World Championship prize pool?

The total prize pool for the MTG 2024 World Championship is $1 million. Here is the breakdown for the top eight.

  • First: $100,000
  • Second: $50,000
  • Third and fourth: $25,000
  • Fifth to eighth: $20,000
