What’s a multiplayer game without cosmetics, especially skins?
Blizzard has been making fun new skins for all of Overwatch’s characters since the game first released. Players have come to expect new skins during each event and in celebration of the Overwatch League.
Reaper, one of the game’s launch heroes, has one of the most loaded portfolios. Starting with the game’s first Halloween event, Reaper’s shotgun-wielding edgelord persona was a perfect fit for a headless horseman-inspired skin, which became one of Overwatch‘s most popular skins right off the bat. Since then, Reaper has acquired plenty of fun, edgy skins, a trend that’s sure to continue in the upcoming Overwatch 2.
In the meantime, here are the best Reaper skins in Overwatch.
Best Reaper skins in Overwatch
Nevermore
Despite being one of Reaper’s base legendary skins, this Edgar Allen Poe-themed skin remains one of the best in the game. When Overwatch was released, Nevermore was one of four legendary skins for Reaper. He also has a recolor called Plague Doctor, but Nevermore wins out thanks to its classic black and purple color scheme and iconic beaked mask. The raven-shaped shotguns with glowing purple eyes add the perfect edgy touch. If you’re a Reaper main, you’ve definitely used this skin before.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin was included in 2016’s Halloween Terror event, which was Overwatch‘s very first Halloween event. Not only does the skin pay homage to the Tale of the Headless Horseman, but it’s also one of the game’s first post-launch legendary skins. Alongside Witch Mercy, Pumpkin Reaper is a stone-cold classic skin that’s equal parts terrifying and fun. The jack-o’-lantern-shaped head and candelabra shotguns are iconic, as are the skin’s high collar and skull buttons.
Rat King
Many of Reaper’s skins are references to famous villains throughout media, and Rat King is no exception. Based on the character of the same name from The Nutcracker, Rat King brings the gilded aesthetics of royalty to the sneering soldier. It stands out compared to most of Reaper’s darker skins thanks to its bright purple bodice, gold accents, and jeweled crown. Add in a pair of pimped-out purple shotguns that are also laced in gold, and you have perhaps the most colorful skin in Reaper’s arsenal.
Hellfire
Hellfire proves that the best skins aren’t always in the legendary category. This fiery, demonic skin belongs to the epic category, but it’s still one of Reaper’s most impressive. His metallic horned mask is terrifying on its own, but when combined with his lava-like chest plate and the kneepads that mirror his mask, it all makes for a very intimidating setup. The skin has its own set of particle effects that makes it look like Reaper’s face is surrounded by flickering flames.
Blackwatch Reyes
Blackwatch Reyes doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of other Reaper skins, but the exclusivity and simplicity of the skin make it one of the game’s best. This skin is a reference to Reaper’s role as the commanding officer of the Blackwatch division of Overwatch, a covert operations group within the international organization. This skin was exclusive to the Origins Edition, Legendary Edition, and Game of the Year editions, so it’s hard to find nowadays.
