This weekend Australia’s best Overwatch players will battle to take the Overwatch Contenders Season 2 title as the playoffs are set to begin.
The eight teams who survived the five-week regular season will play for a playoff prize purse of nearly $14,000, with $7,500 going to the victor. The two teams who reach the finals will clash at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Saturday, Sept 1, as part of the Melbourne Esports Open. You can get tickets at Ticketek.
But that’s still a few playoff rounds and a few weeks away. This weekend the quarterfinals open with Australia’s top Overwatch team wielding their mice and keyboards.
The Contenders Season 1 champs, Sydney Drop Bears, put together an undefeated regular season in Season 2 and they’ll look to continue their rampage in the first match of the playoffs against SereNity on Sunday, Aug. 12 at 9pm CT (or noon AEST on Aug. 13). Then Kanga Esports will face Legacy Esports two hours later.
The other half of the bracket features Drop Bears’ biggest rival, Dark Sided, who also won every match of the regular season, but couldn’t win every single map as Drop Bears did. Dark Sided plays Tainted Minds in the second match on Monday following a bout between ORDER and Masterminds GC. Monday’s matches begin at the same time as Sunday’s.
You can catch the action on the Overwatch Contenders Twitch channel, so be sure to tune in.
