Other than character skins, sprays are one of the most fun parts of Overwatch. They can be used to disrespect the entire enemy team after a team kill, to meme with your teammates, or even to make friends on your team without saying a word. The sheer amount and variety of sprays the game has accumulated makes them a versatile form of expression.
Each hero has their own set of sprays that can be bought, unlocked in loot boxes, or obtained through challenges. There’s also another subset of sprays that can be equipped by anyone. Some sprays combine with other heroes’ sprays to make complete images; others depict multiple heroes together, both of which help expand Overwatch‘s overarching story and lore. In short, sprays are awesome.

Based on a scene from one of Overwatch‘s first cinematics, …Punch is absolutely iconic. It looks great next to almost every other spray, and it’s a great way to disrespect an opposing player when you outplay them.
Red 0
The simplicity of this spray is what makes it so powerful. Don’t like someone else’s spray? Put this on top of it. Want to subtly tell an enemy that they should uninstall? Spray it next to them when you defeat them. Its versatility is its strength.

Ana – ZZZ
Like many of the other sprays on this list, Ana’s ZZZ pairs well with just about anything else. Much like her sleep dart, this spray instantly renders any other spray asleep at best and boring at worst. It’s worth unlocking just to annoy your enemies.
Ashe – Sweat
Despite being made of metal, Ashe’s robotic partner B.O.B. is one of the most expressive characters in the game. This spray highlights everything that makes him funny: his worried expression and the embarrassment conveyed by the sweat drop are perfect for when you want to apologize to your teammates for that Genji you let get away.
Baptiste – Taunt
The best sprays are the ones that make your enemies mad, and Baptiste’s Taunt definitely falls into that category. Not only is it disrespectful, but it tells your enemies that they’ve been outclassed by a support legend. If you’re tired of being shown up by damage players, try putting this spray into your arsenal.
Brigitte – Mounted Combat
Many of Overwatch‘s sprays give us insight into what its heroes were like in their early lives. This adorable Brigitte spray is funny mostly for the juxtaposition between her inspired expression and the very fed-up look on her cat’s face, both of which never fail to make your teammates laugh.
Cassidy – Your Face Here
Another interactive spray, this Cassidy classic lets you put just about any other spray in the middle. If you know one of your teammates is going to tear up the field, you can put this around their spray to show off their high-profile status. It’s also great for making fun of a friend if you think they’re not going to do very well.
Doomfist – …Punch?
A parody of the …Punch spray above, this Doomfist version gives him a silly expression and a question mark next to his head. It’s a great twist on the original spray and is definitely the best of Doomfist’s sprays, especially if you’re looking to knock another spray out of the park.
Echo – Loading
This spray was almost beaten out by the equally hilarious Hitchhiking, but it’s so relatable that it ultimately won. If you’ve ever been put into an in-progress match by matchmaking and you have no idea what’s going on, use this spray to accurately convey your confusion.
Lúcio – Pixel
This spray is special not just for its appearance, but for what it represents. Pixel Lucio can only be acquired by completing the The Floor Is Lava achievement, which requires Lucio to get three kills without touching the ground. It’s one of the hardest in the game, so if you see a Lucio player sporting this spray, you know they’re the best of the best.
Mercy – Huge Rez
If you miss the days of five-man Mercy resurrections, this spray is for you. It has something of an ironic legacy thanks to its reference to her old ultimate, and it shows your teammates and enemies that you’re no Overwatch noob. Never forget that the best way to play Mercy is to hide until your entire team is dead, then jump out and rez them all at once.
Moira – Facepalm
Moira’s classic facepalm is almost as iconic as Reaper’s Shrug, which also made this list. It’s a versatile spray – you can use it to both express your annoyance with your incompetent team and tell the enemy that they really need to play better if they plan on winning.
Reaper – Shrug
Reaper’s Shrug is one of his funniest and most meme-able moments. Back in the days of Overwatch proper, it was impossible to scroll through social media without seeing at least one artistic rendering of this iconic pose. Relive the glory days with this hilarious spray edition.
Reinhardt – Ice Fishing
This Reinhardt spray is funny on its own, but it’s even better when you pair it with its matching Pharah spray. Pharah and Reinhardt are presumably on an ice fishing trip together in these sprays. Pharah has caught plenty of fish, while an annoyed Reinhardt hasn’t caught any yet. Ice Fishing can also be combined with other hero sprays to make it look like Reinhardt is catching another spray.
Sigma – Night Sky
Based on Van Gogh’s real-life painting The Starry Night, this Sigma spray is one of the prettiest in the game. The brushwork on the sky matches Van Gogh’s technique, and Sigma’s Hyperspheres fit in perfectly with the circular areas of emphasis. It’s a great spray to display on the spawn room’s walls.
Soldier: 76 – Trick or Treat
This Halloween Terror-exclusive spray takes Soldier: 76 out of his battle gear and puts him into an old-fashioned rocking chair with a bucket full of candy sitting nearby. It sprung out of the Overwatch community’s frequent depiction of 76 as a cranky dad. It’s funny, but more importantly, it’s proof that the community made an impression on Overwatch as much as Overwatch made an impression on the community.
Torbjörn – Kanon
This funny Ikea instruction book parody is a great way to show your teammates that you’re passionate about building turrets. It matches Ikea’s style perfectly, from the wordless instructions to the bold font to the Swedish name. This lighthearted spray is up there with the game’s best.
Wrecking Ball – Spinning
While rolling around the battlefield at high speeds as Wrecking Ball might be fun, has anyone ever thought about what Hammond must feel like inside? This hilarious spray aims to answer that question, showing that yes, Overwatch‘s only hamster gets dizzy like the rest of us. Who wouldn’t after taking a spin in his mech?
