Persona 3 Reload‘s Episode Aigis DLC brings a few new enemies, including the Acheron Seeker. While some returning Shadows have similar affinities, Acheron Seeker has new weaknesses since it wasn’t around in the base game.

It’s rare to get a Shadow that wasn’t in Tartarus, but Acheron Seeker appears as a gatekeeper on the 17th floor of Ptolomea, the fifth area in the Desert of Doors. And it’s not alone: It brings an Ice Raven in tow, which makes an easy fight if you can explore their weaknesses in Episode Aigis.

Acheron Seeker is weak to Strike, Fire, and Electric damage, but it’s impervious to any other magic attack type. This shadow nullifies both Light and Dark damage and absorbs Ice and Wind. The only neutral damage types are Slash and Pierce, which don’t have any different interactions.

Because of this, Mitsuru and Yukari aren’t the best matchups by default, while Akihiko, Ken, Koromaru, and Junpei can make short work of Acheron Seeker. Since it’s a team fight, though, Mitsuru and Junpei have an important role: beating up the Seeker’s buddy, the Ice Raven.

The Ice Raven is weak to Slash, but it deflects Pierce and absorbs Ice. Mitsuru can’t use Bufu- spells here, but she wouldn’t need to anyway: She’s better off hacking at this enemy. The only weak matchup here is Yukari, if you can call her Wind spells “weak.”

Acheron Seeker is the biggest threat in this fight, and you can still feel the impacts of this bout even if you defeat this Shadow. Its Spirit Drain will steal 100 SP from one of your party members, meaning you might have to spend more items to offset it and even call an early end to your ventures through Ptolomea. This is particularly dangerous if the fight is too long, though it’s easy to take this Shadow out of the rotation.

Ice Raven, on the other hand, is a dangerous sidekick. It can use Ice spells to exploit weaknesses or freeze enemies, and anyone who’s down can also receive a punishing Vile Assault as a follow-up.

Still, the Ice Raven makes this fight far easier if you have enough fighting power in your team. Use Slash to get a One More off Acheron Seeker, then use Strike to down the Ice Raven and start an All-Out Attack. Bonus points if you use attacks that target all foes, like Deathbound or Herculean Strike, since neither of the two Shadows resist those damage types. Metis excels at this, especially if she receives a Shift from Aigis to boost her attack.

Your main disadvantage is the potential to lose 100 SP in the blink of an eye, making Acheron Seeker a potentially frustrating opponent. We were lucky that Spirit Drain affected Junpei, who usually resorts to physical skills. Otherwise, this would have kept us at the edge of our seats better than any Sword of Damocles ever could.
