The Fantasy Cup has arrived in Pokémon Go‘s Battle League, allowing you to bring a variety of unique Pokémon teams against other players. Like many of these competitions, there are multiple rules you’ll need to follow when creating your team that may limit your options.
You must create a team comprising at least three Pokémon, like the previous Pokémon Go Battle Leagues. The specific Pokémon you select will vary based on who you have in your roster, but some of these combinations will be better than others, especially in the Fantasy Cup. These are the best teams you can use in Pokémon Go‘s Fantasy Cup.
Best Fantasy Cup teams in Pokémon Go
When participating in the Fantasy Cup Great League, make sure your choices for your Pokémon Go team are at or below 1,500 CP. Only Dragon, Steel, and Fairy-type Pokémon can be used in the Fantasy Cup.
Ensure you follow these rules for Pokémon Go‘s Fantasy Cup, but it means your team choices are limited. It means, however, that specific Pokémon are better choices than others, especially if they resist Dragon, Steel, or Fairy-type moves. These are some of the best teams we’ve created that you should consider using in Pokémon Go‘s Fantasy Cup Great League.
Azumarill, Galarian Weezing, and Skarmory
For our first team, we have Azumarill as the main Pokémon. You can expect to see Azumarill often throughout these battles as players flock to use it on their teams. I believe pairing it with Galarian Weezing and Skarmory has the best chance to topple several Pokémon Go teams, but Azumarill is a relatively flexible team member you can use with various team-ups.
- Azumarill: Bubble (fast move), Play Rough, and Hydro Pump.
- Galarian Weezing: Fairy Wind (fast move), Sludge, and Overheat.
- Skarmory: Steel Wing (fast move), Brave Bird, and Sky Attack.
Registeel, Escavalier, and Turtonator
For the next team, we’re putting Registeel in the spotlight. As the leading Steel-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go‘s Great League, it makes sense to see this Pokémon as one of the top choices. To assist it, Escavaliar and Turtonator are good go-to options. Put Registeel as the final Pokémon, though, as it excels in defense.
- Registeel: Lock on (fast move), Zap Cannon, and Focus Blast
- Escavalier: Counter (fast move), Drill Run, and Acid Spray
- Turtonator: Incinerate (fast move), Overheat, and Dragon Pulse
Tapu Fini, Alolan Sandslash, and Togedemaru
Similar to the previous Fantasy Cup in Pokémon Go, one of the top Pokémon that players should expect to use is Tapu Fini, the legendary Water and Fairy-type Pokémon. It has the same typing as Azumarill, but with different stats and moves, it’s not as powerful. Still, it’s a strong choice in Pokémon Go, and you can bring Alolan Sandslash and Togedemaru with you on this team to assist it.
- Tapu Fini: Water Gun (fast move), Surf, and Nature’s Madness.
- Alolan Sandslash: Shadow Claw (fast move), Ice Punch, and Drill Run.
- Togedemaru: Thundershock (fast move), Wild Charge, and Fell Stinger.
Galarian Stunfisk, Lucario, and Heatran
In this next team, we’re placing Galarian Stunfisk as one of the first Pokémon you should use during a battle. Galarian Stunfisk continues to excel as one of the better Great and Ultra League Pokémon, and you can use Lucario and Heatran alongside it. Heatran has a reputation for being a sturdy Steel-type Pokémon, making it a great final choice to hold the line against your opponent.
- Galarian Stunfisk: Mud Shot (fast move), Rock Slide, and Earthquake.
- Lucario: Counter (fast move), Thunder Punch, and Shadow Ball.
- Heatran: Fire Spin (fast move), Magma Storm, and Earth Power.
Excadrill, Giratina (Origin), and Empoleon
In this final team, we switch things up and place Excadrill as the first Pokémon you use against your opponent. Rather than sticking with the Fairy-types, we feature a Ghost-type, Giratina (Origin), as a teammate. Giratina (Origin) has the chance to do some real damage to other opponents, and you can use Empoleon as the final Pokémon in this line-up.
- Excadrill: Mud Shot (fast move), Rock Slide, and Drill Run.
- Giratina (Origin): Shadow Claw (fast move), Shadow Ball, and Ominous Wind.
- Empoleon: Steel Wing (fast move), Hydro Cannon, and Drill Peck.
