Tapu Koko is one of the Guardian Deities of Alola, a group of four Legendary Pokémon from Gen. VII of the main series games, along with Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Fini. Each of the Deities have a different primary type, including Electric, Psychic, Grass, and Water, but all of them share Fairy as a secondary type. Since the first half of 2022, all four of them have been available on Pokémon Go as well.
Tapu Koko’s primary type is Electric, which is why it is featured in the Crackling Voltage event—a celebration of Electric-types. Among the many event bonuses and spawns, Electric Pokémon are appearing more frequently in the wild, and Tapu Koko is returning as a Raid Boss. Team GO Rocket is also back with new Shadow Pokémon and a new Special Research story where you can save Shadow Registeel.
But if you’re interested in the Guardian Deity Tapu Koko, you might be wondering if the Electric and Fairy dual-type can be Shiny in Pokémon Go this time around. And we have some good news.
Can Tapu Koko be Shiny in Pokémon Go?
Starting from Jan. 25, 2023, yes, Tapu Koko can be Shiny in Pokémon Go. If you’re lucky, you might just get yours during the Crackling Voltage event.
Tapu Koko was unavailable as a Shiny prior to this event. Originally, it was added to the game on March 1, 2022, at the start of Welcome to Alola, an event dedicated to species from the Pokémon World island region.
What does Shiny Tapu Koko look like?
In its original version, Tapu Koko’s body is predominantly black and a bright orange. With each arm, it holds a bright yellow shield that resembles a bird mask. As a Shiny, it becomes much darker. The yellow parts in its body also turn black, and the orange parts take on a less saturated tone.
