After sort of skipping a generation, Niantic and Game Freak are bringing back interlinked features between the main series Pokémon games and Pokémon Go. This new iteration centers around Gimmighoul and the ability to get an exclusive form not found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Last November, Gimmighoul was teased and officially revealed through Pokémon Go weeks ahead of Gen IX’s launch. It was mostly a visual crossover at the time, but following Pokémon Day 2023, the interlinked gameplay is fully available.

While you can encounter both of Gimmighoul’s forms—Chest and Roaming—in Scarlet and Violet, you can only catch stationary Chest Form. And while you can find Roaming Gimmighoul in the overworld of Paldea, you can only interact with them to get some additional Gimmighoul Coins, and catching them is impossible.
Can you find and catch Gimmighoul Chest and Roaming Form in Pokémon Go?
In Pokémon Go, you can only find Gimmighoul in its Roaming Form by using the new connectivity features to send Postcards to Scarlet and Violet. This will enable you to use the new Coin Bag item to spawn Gimmighoul for a limited amount of time and catch them.
Once you collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins, either through catching Gimmighoul or sending Postcards, you can still evolve your Gimmighoul in a Gholdengo in Pokémon Go. The evolution works the same way as it would in Scarlet and Violet.
Chest Form Gimmighoul will not appear in Pokémon Go, meaning they are locked to the Gen IX titles for the time being. Though this could change with Pokémon HOME updates in the future.
