Cloud9 will be joining TSM as the first two professional teams invited to gamescom’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Invitational, ESL announced today. It’s the first LAN event in the battle royale title’s young history. C9’s PUBG team includes Drew “Sweaterr” Miser, Adam “Crunch” Escobedo, Justin “Chappie” Andrews, and Alexandru “SolidFPS” Cotiga. The team previously competed for C9 in H1Z1: King of the Kill.
TSM and C9 could soon have some interesting company, though. Team EnVyUs owner Mike “Hastr0” Rufail tweeted this afternoon about his interest in the game. EnVyUs already has teams in Call of Duty, League of Legends, CS:GO, Overwatch, Halo, and Rocket League, so PUBG seems to be a logical expansion.
And who could blame him? PUBG is very popular right now, and it hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. The game can routinely be found near the top of the games directory on Twitch, and the gamescom Invitational is just the beginning for PUBG’s esports potential. If this momentum continues, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see teams like EnVyUs and even more high profile esports organizations joining the battle.
