PUBG: Battlegrounds has long enjoyed a diverse global playerbase, but communicating effectively with all segments of its audience has proven a challenge—a long-standing issue PUBG‘s director now wants to resolve as quickly as possible.

Taehyun Kim, the production director of PUBG, recently acknowledged this in an interview with IGN, emphasizing the importance of reaching out more effectively to Western players. “I’m Korean, and I’m more comfortable speaking in Korean, so I have been communicating with Korean users using livestreaming,” Kim explained. Now, however, he’s recognized the need to expand his communication efforts beyond his comfort zone to keep PUBG thriving everywhere.

“That was my preparation to more effectively communicate with Western and English-speaking users,” he admitted. “Currently, we’re looking forward and looking at different ways to more effectively communicate with our users around the world.”

The push to communicate better with Western audiences comes at a crucial time for PUBG. With new content like a zombie mode and an Unreal Engine upgrade in the works, Kim and his team are looking to ensure PUBG players worldwide are not only aware of these new developments but also feel heard and involved in the game’s future.

By actively seeking feedback from all corners of the world and prioritizing fairly consistent updates, the PUBG team now aims to maintain the game’s core theme of survival while adapting to player needs. “Through our communication events in Korea, I’ve learned that what is more important is not to do something big, but to do something consistently,” Kim added, highlighting his belief in steady, ongoing improvements.

This initiative began at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, where Kim attended PUBG: Hot Drop Cologne. This appearance marked one of his first direct engagements with Western players. His focus on improved communication aligns with his broader strategy for PUBG, which is to continually engage with the community and ensure the now-seven-year-old game evolves in ways that resonate with its diverse (and consistent) playerbase.

Kim’s dedication to fostering a more connected community could be the key to the game’s sustained success. With plans for way more updates and a focus on feedback, the future looks promising for PUBG into 2025 and beyond.
