PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is taking a page out of Fortnite’s custom game book to offer its own 50 vs. 50 temporary game mode—and it kicks off today.
The mode, titled “Platoon Mode,” sees two teams of 50 players—separated into five squads of ten people—descend onto a map to see who can be the last player, or squad, standing.
Fortnite has had a similar mode for some time now, with players being dropped into half of the map only to have a small circle appear somewhere near the centre that they have to race towards. Players in this mode can still invade the opposing half to pick up some cheeky kills, however, albeit usually at the cost of their own life.
For the PUBG version of the mode, everything else remains identical to the standard Battle Royale experience. Same loot drops, same idea, just with friendly fire turned off for, you know, obvious reasons.
PUBG’s Platoon Mode will start later today on the PC version only, with no console mode announced. The mode also supports both third-person and first-person perspectives. The event will end on Oct. 22.
