This weekend the best StarCraft 2 players in Oceania and Southeast Asia will compete to earn berths at the 2018 Challenger World Championship Series stop in Valencia.
Tomorrow an open qualifier kicks off at 10am AEST (or 6pm CT on Friday), with the top fourteen players from the double elimination bracket advancing to the knockout round where the top sixteen players will battle for two slots in Valencia.
The online qualifier features $10,000 AUD (or about $7,660 USD) in prize money and two all important berths at Valencia, including fully paid accommodations and travel. Every player who qualifies for the second round will score WCS Circuit points.
The tournament features many of Australia’s top StarCraft players. Sheldon “Seither” Barrow and Ryan “NXZ” Jones are pre-seeded into the second round, but they’ll face tough competition from the open bracket field. Protoss player Sean “Probe” Kempen has earned more WCS circuit points than NXZ so far this year thanks to outplacing him at the first Challenger event. Other contenders like Cameron “Yours” Foster, Craig “Azure” MacKechnie, Indian Zerg Varun “Demi” Immanuel, and Ethan “iaguz” Zugasi, the region’s top WCS contender in 2017, could all challenge for the title.
