Dr Disrespect was banned on Twitch today for an unknown reason.
The StreamerBans Twitter account, which automatically tracks partner bans on the platform, posted that the Doc had been banned at 2:01pm CT on June 26.
At time of writing, it’s unclear what this ban is for. His pinned tweet on his Twitter says that he was scheduled to go live at 12pm CT today, but navigating to Dr Disrespect’s Twitch channel shows that it’s inaccessible.
It’s possible that the ban could be DMCA-related. A recent wave of DMCA claims on Twitch streamers has struck the industry, forcing broadcasters to play royalty-free music on stream or face heavy consequences.
The Doc was previously banned in the summer of 2019, but it was a temporary and short suspension. The punishment was for bringing his camera crew into the bathroom at E3.
Update June 26 3:25pm CT: Journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau says Dr Disrespect has been permanently banned from Twitch. He didn’t cite a reason why other than saying his source said it’s not DMCA-related.
Update June 26 3:56pm CT: Twitch has put out a statement about the ban, but it offers no details as to why he’s been banned or for how long.
Update June 27 2:03am CT: Slasher cited “credible sources” regarding Dr Disrespect’s ban, but was uncomfortable sharing the reason due to “the importance and sensitivity around the subject.”
Twitch has begun issuing refunds to Dr Disrespect’s subscribers.
Update June 27 9:10am CT: Dr Disrespect posted an update to Twitter saying Twitch has yet to inform him of the specific reason behind his ban. “Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time,” the streamer wrote.
