The Minecraft movie will soon be upon us, but it seems that it has managed to attract some controversy. Streamer Valkyrae, who has a cameo in the movie, recently spoke of her “worst celebrity or streamer experience,” naming Jason Momoa’s alleged abuse of its cast members as the prime example.

She shared this in a Sept. 13 stream with fellow creator JasonTheWeen (shared on Reddit today, Sept. 14), saying she allegedly “saw him mistreat some of the crew.” Valkyrae, real name Rachell Hofstetter, expressed her disappointment with the actor, though she claims she might have misunderstood the situation and that Momoa could have been “still in character” since he was performing an “emotional scene.” Even so, the award-winning streamer said she was “surprised by how he treated some of the crew,” adding that he was “just really mad that they weren’t doing something right.”

“He was just angry, like really mad, yelling,” she explained. Valkyrae went on to say that she didn’t like the work environment of the movie set, claiming that she “wouldn’t be happy working under these conditions” and that Momoa’s treatment of the crew “was probably the worst celebrity thing I’ve seen.”

Hollywood and its many actors are no strangers to heated moments on set, and Momoa himself has been named on several occasions as a particular example of such behavior. In 2018, speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Amber Heard alleged that Momoa would rip pages out of her books, supposedly because her liking to read “drove him nuts” during the filming of Aquaman. Heard said his actions were “annoying” to the point she seemingly had to craft a “book bag” to keep her books from being damaged by the actor.

A Minecraft Movie, the live-action adaptation of the biggest franchise on Earth starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and others, is set to release on April 4, 2025. It is being directed by Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame, though initial fan reactions cast a shadow of doubt at the potential quality of the film.
