We’ve all had that one breakup that drags on too long. Many of us have invested time, energy, and resources into something that really can’t be revived, and it seems like famous Twitch streamers like xQc and Adept are no different in that regard.

The high-profile streaming couple originally met years ago when xQc was a professional Overwatch player, and the two entered into a lengthy public relationship. Sadly, the good times didn’t last, and their post-breakup feud spawned tear-filled streams and multiple court cases. Here’s the entire xQc and Adept court case timeline, explained.

The context

While it appeared the couple was in an on-again-off-again relationship, their final breakup occurred in September 2022. During that month, xQc was scheduled to attend a large event with Adept and many fellow streamers. However, xQc suddenly pulled out at the last minute, sparking massive public backlash. To counteract the negative press, xQC posted a video explaining he didn’t want to attend because he’d just broken up with Adept.

XQc and Adept fought that night in an incredibly emotional and awkward stream. After this tear-filled exchange, all of which was broadcast live, fans were immediately concerned for both parties, but it appeared like the two were no longer on speaking terms.

The McClaren

Two months later, Adept hosted a livestream where she talked about the breakup with xQc, and explained she technically has legal ownership over his $300,000 McClaren. Since xQc didn’t have a driver’s license when he’d purchased the vehicle, Adept claims the car was legally registered under her name instead. Adept even posted a photo of some flowers inside the McClaren, proving she had ownership and access to the car.

The situation only got worse in 2023 when Adept showed up at xQc’s house while he was streaming, famously banging on his front door loud enough that it was picked up by his microphone. When he answered the door, Adept told him he was, “violating a court order,” and that “I [Adept] have full authority to the car.” This conversation proved that xQc had reclaimed the vehicle sometime after Adept’s posts and that the two were in a contentious legal battle.

The divorce and assault cases

Just a few hours after the front-door incident, fans online found public records of multiple legal proceedings between xQc and Adept. It turns out these were filed on Nov 11, 2022, the very same day Adept posted photos in the McClaren. In the papers, Adept requested both a restraining order and divorce against xQc.

This shocked fans, because the two were never publically engaged or married. The next day, xQc used his stream to reiterate he and Adept were never married in the first place.

As it turns out, Adept was attempting to claim the couple had a common law marriage. In Texas, a common law marriage is considered a legal form of eloping, so long as a couple has previously agreed to get married, has lived together as a husband and wife, and told others they are married. If the courts upheld the alleged common law marriage, then Adept would be able to take half of the assets xQc accrued while the two were together.

This legal battle continued for several months, and fans were fueled by the couple’s on-again-off-again nature. In June of 2023, Adept shared a photo of her wearing a wedding ring next to a sleeping xQc. While Adept seemingly posted this photo to prove her side of the story, xQc stated he caved into coming over and slept in a separate bedroom.

The assault case

In August of 2023, Adept suddenly filed abuse and sexual assault charges against xQc, claiming he harmed her while the two were together. Once these were filed, both parties stopped publically commenting on any of the cases, and little is known about the private legal proceedings during this time.

The outcomes

After a long legal battle, xQc announced to his livestream in December of 2023 he had won both the divorce and assault cases. This means the state of Texas found the alleged common law marriage invalid and also claimed he’d never committed any instances of abuse.

XQc had appeared elated during that broadcast after receiving the news, and shared that all his major court cases with Adept have been settled or dropped.

The McClaren court case is dismissed

Even though the divorce and assault cases were settled, there was still a contentious legal battle over xQc’s McClaren and legal fees. In a clip from a Twitch stream, xQc alleged all of his assets became protected by a court order after he won both cases. This means his expensive pieces of property, such as cars or houses, couldn’t be legally sold. The streamer claimed “someone” decided to break this court order and sell the McClaren.

This spurned on another lawsuit, and xQc claimed on Kick he’s not interested in purchasing back the car and is instead going to pursue legal action. Finally, this month xQc mentioned the situation again on a Kick stream. In the clip, he stated the judge of the new case decided to dismiss the McClaren case, “even though my car was sold illegally.”

This appears the end of the legal battles between xQc and Adept, though more could always crop up.
