The multiplayer error in Space Marine 2 occurs when attempting to join a friend, with players stuck in an infinite “joining server” screen. If you’re among those encountering these issues, we’ve outlined some potential fixes below.

While there is no guaranteed fix to the joining server loading screen error in Space Marine 2, there are some steps you can take while Saber Interactive works on a fix. We’ve outlined them below in a step-by-step guide.

  1. Disable Steam Overlay.
If you are playing on PC, disabling the Steam Overlay may resolve the issue. To do this, right-click on Space Marine 2 in your games library, open the Properties option, and select turn off the Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game option in the general menu.
  2. Disable cloud saving.
Another fix for Steam users is to disable cloud saving by following the same steps above and unchecking the Keep game saves in cloud for Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 option.
  3. Invite via player code.
If you are using your platform’s social options to invite friends to your game, try using the in-game code for your session instead. You can see your code by opening the Lobby Menu in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Change game mode.
If you cannot load into your friend’s game, ask them to switch their session to another mode, like Operations or PvP, before joining. Once in the session, you can then return to the campaign or another mode you want to play.
  5. Disable cross-platform play.
To do this, open the Settings menu, scroll to the bottom of the Game tab, open the Network section, and switch Crossplay to Off. Of course, don’t choose this fix if you and a friend are playing on different platforms.

If none of the above fixes work, unfortunately, it’s just a case of trying again. Whenever I’ve encountered the error, I’ve managed to get past the screen eventually by trying again. It is frustrating and may take several attempts, but in the end, it’s worth it to enjoy Space Marine 2.
