“Rushed through the door” is the clue from the Aug. 5 NYT mini crossword puzzle. You may think it’s easy because there aren’t too many possibilities, and that’s true; there aren’t. But there are more prospects if you factor in two-worders. If you don’t have the answer, don’t fret—I have a few hints to help you, and the answer below.

  • Hint 1: The answer is two words.
  • Hint 2: The first word starts with an “R.”
  • Hint 3: The second word starts with an “I.”
  • Hint 4: It rhymes with examine.

As this answer is two words, it can feel impossible to solve. I have included the answer below. But if you’re still trying to solve this clue, please only read on when you’re ready.

The answer to the “Rushed through the door” clue is “RAN IN.” When someone has already rushed through the door, this means they’ve already done it (past tense), which is why today’s answer is ran in rather than run in.

With four-down solved, the rest of the NYT Mini Crossword puzzle should be easier to answer. If you’re still struggling, I’ve got all the clues and answers.

‘Rushed through the door’ NYT Mini Crossword clue difficulty

After playing these crosswords for some time, I’ve come to the conclusion that two-word answers will always be more challenging than the one-word answers because we don’t expect such a short crossword to have two-worders. When it does, that means there are even more answer possibilities we’re not thinking about.

When I read this clue, I had no idea what it could be and thought it might be something along the lines of “burst.” But we know that’s wrong. I had to solve most of the crossword before realizing it was two words. I’d give this clue a solid four out of five.
