‘W.S.J. or WaPo competitor’ answer
I’m about to reveal the answer, so stop scrolling if you don’t want it spoiled!
The answer to today’s NTY Mini clue, “W.S.J. or WaPo competitor,” is “NYT.” Of course! NYT is the name often used for The New York Times, the newspaper that runs the NYT Mini Crossword. The answer was staring you in the face the whole time!
The WSJ (Wall Street Journal) and WaPo (Washington Post) are both New York Times competitors. All are prestigious American newspapers and are considered some of the best in the world.
Founded in 1951, the NYT was originally called the New-York Daily Times.
‘W.S.J. or WaPo competitor’ clue difficulty rating
I didn’t get the answer right away. I know it’s literally above the crossword, but the clue is what threw me off. I know the WSJ is the Wall Street Journal, but I didn’t recognize the WaPo as the Washington Post. There’s also the fact the answer is the shortened name, rather than the New York Times.
If, like me, you’re in the U.K. or a country outside of the U.S., you’ve likely heard of the names of these publications (you’re here, after all), but also may not recognize their shortened names. At the end of the day, the answer was right in front of us, so I’m giving this a two out of five difficulty rating.
