Addons have become a big part of World of Warcraft, especially because many functions key to playing the MMORPG simply aren’t natively built in. While Blizzard has made some progress with improving the features, UI, and overall systems, there are some mods you should still install, particularly for The War Within.

There are many mods you can download and use in WoW The War Within, but the ones I’ve found to be the best include HandyNotes, TomTom, Weak Auras, Auctionator, Deadly Boss Mod, Details! Damage Meter, Bagnons, and Namer Plater Nameplates.

1) HandyNotes and Handy Notes The War Within

Although there’s nothing better than diving into dungeons and exploring the new delves, horizontal content can also be enjoyable. This is where Handy Notes and the Handy Notes The War Within mods come in handy (pun intended). They’ll show you all the locations of rares, treasures, battle pets, and collectibles on your map.

So, if you like collecting and earning WoW achievements tied to the various cool treasures across Khaz Algar, then this is a great mod to install.

2) TomTom / TomCat Coordinates

As someone who writes guides where I need to give the exact coordinates for an item or quest, having coordinates to share is gamechanging. If you too want to use these coordinates to help you on your adventures in Khaz Algar, you’ll need a coordinate mod like TomCat’s Coordinates or TomTom to help you narrow down their locations.

While both options are great, I like TomTom more because you can input the coordinates and be guided to that location, which is nice if you’re uncertain of where to go.

3) Weak Auras

Weak Auras is the ultimate mod that allows you to customize the graphics and UI for buffs, debuffs, spells, layouts, and so much more. It’s super helpful in raids where you need to see your cooldowns, spells, and even when your interrupt will be ready. There are so many options with this mod that it can be overwhelming. But it’s so worth it. A great source for finding customization options to include in your WeakAura mod is through Wago.io.

4) Auctionator

The Auctionator mod is a super handy tool that can help you find any WoW items to buy, list items for sale, create lists and do everything you need to do at an Auction House but with more customization and a focus on earning gold.

5) Deadly Boss Mod

If you have a penchant for standing in every boss mechanic, it’s time to get Deadly Boss Mod, particularly if you’re going to be running raids and Mythic+ dungeons. With this mod, you can set it to alert you of any spells that are being used, and you can even set up spoken alerts if you’ve got too many visual effects or UI features. If you’re enjoying delves and dungeons in The War Within, there’s another mod you can use in conjunction with DBM called DBM Dungeons, Delves, and Events that will help you during these instances.

That said, if you’ve tried these The War Within mods and don’t like them, I highly recommend BigWigs Boss Mods (an alternative to DBM) and LittleWigs (you need BigWigs for this to run, but it works for five-player and solo activities).

6) Bagnon

I am guilty of letting my inventory get out of hand, and my friends describe my WoW bags as “cluttered” (though I prefer the term “organized chaos.”) So, if you’re like me, Bagnon will be your friend—it replaces the current bag interface with one that’s easier to use, makes finding items faster, and has a search function.

7) Details! Damage Meter

If you plan on joining The War Within raids when they’re released, you may want to get the Details! Damage Meter, as it can accurately track your damage or healing. Although this might not seem like a big deal, it is, particularly for those who run raids with guilds and need to deal consistent damage and healing or those looking to min-max their builds. Or to simply out-damage their friends. It happens.

8) Plater Nameplates

If you have trouble seeing enemy health bars in any WoW fights and want to customize it a little, try Plater Nameplate. With this War Within addon, you can make enemy health bars more transparent, see their threat status, health percentage, and much more. And it can also support the Weak Auras companion mod.
