Waxface is the last boss you fight in The Waterworks Delve in WoW The War Within, and he can be an absolute menace at High Tier and Bountiful Delves.
Although this boss can be a breeze at lower difficulty Delves, most players do the High Tier and Bountiful Delves for better rewards. Waxface is a great challenge even for experienced champions, so here’s our guide on beating him in The War Within.
Where to find Waxface in WoW The War Within
Since Waxface is the last boss of The Waterworks Delve, you can find him at the end of the Delve in the last room. The Delve itself is located in The Ringing Deeps zone, and you can find the entrance on top of a big dam, at coordinates 46.3, 48.3.
Once you enter the Delve, depending on the mission you get, you’ll most likely have to fight a bunch of Kobolds until you reach the last room. However, this is also one of the fastest Delves, meaning that you can bypass most of the mobs as well.
How to beat Waxface in WoW The War Within
Since all Delves are adjusted to a specific item level, I highly suggest reaching the maximum level first and unlocking all your Hero talents. This way you unlock the full potential of your class and getting some gear before you fight Waxface at higher difficulty also comes in handy.
It’s also necessary that you place the Air Totem somewhere spacious because it protects you from the poisonous debuff which drains your health. Once you get that covered, there are also three main mechanics that Waxface does:
- Noxious Gas – Waxface does a green AoE attack around him in melee which leaves a big green poisonous puddle on the ground that deals damage.
- Throw Wax – Waxface starts throwing hot wax at his opponents.
- Burn Away – Deals big AoE damage everywhere, no matter your positioning.
Depending on the class you play, you can play out things differently. For the Noxious Gas mechanic, only melee classes need to worry about this since all they have to do is walk out of the Waxface’s melee attack. As for the Throw Wax, let the NPC Brann Bronzebeard take aggro or if you’re playing something like a Warlock or Hunter, then the pet gets the job done as well.
Another useful tactic is to have Brann Bronzebeard equipped as a healer. Both Brann Bronzebeard and Delves recently got big hotfixes and changes, and the buff to Brann finally allows him to perform as a good healer that keeps you safe most of the time.
How to survive Burn Away AoE mechanic in WoW The War Within
The Burn Away AoE is the only tricky mechanic of the Waxface fight because it has a massive range and deals a huge amount of damage that you simply can’t avoid. You can’t dodge, kick or even line of sight the mechanic, which makes the entire fight problematic especially on high Tier Delves.
The best way to survive the Burn Away AoE mechanic is to simply outheal it. If your class uses healing spells or utility, combine them with your defensive ability and you’re good. Since Brann Bronzebeard is a healer now, just walk over the healing vials he drops on the floor and it’s enough to outheal and survive the mechanic.
