This is a short questline, don't worry.

Broken Tools is one of the questlines you must complete in World of Warcraft: The War Within to unlock the new Allied Earthen Race. However, starting and completing this (thankfully short) questline can be a little confusing—here’s how to get it done.

You can start the Broken Tools questline in The War Within by speaking with Machinist Kittrin in Gundargaz in the Ringing Deeps at the coordinates 48 and 33 and picking up the Discarded and Broken quest.

The Broken Tools questline is one of the shortest requirements you have to complete to unlock the Allied Earthen Race (it took me less than 10 minutes to get through this questline), and these are all three quests in this story:

  1. Discarded and Broken.
  2. The Weight of the World.
  3. Reforged Purpose.

If you’re having trouble completing these War Within quests, here’s everything you’re going to need to know about how to start and complete them.

How to complete the Broken Tools questline in The War Within

1) Discarded and Broken

Start the Discarded and Broken quest by speaking with Machinist Kittrin in his workroom in Gundargaz in the Ringing Deeps at coordinates 48 and 33. Although the quest marker was showing up for me, Kittrin wasn’t loading. I had to restart WoW to get him to appear. So, if you’re experiencing the same issue, simply restart, and wait for him to appear.

Quest objectiveHow to complete
Collect Machinist Kittrin’s lost tools. You’ll find all three tools around the outside of Gundargaz simply by following the quest markers:
1. Machinist’s Wrench is on a platform at the coordinates 50 and 36.
2. Machinist’s Calipers are on the ground among blue mushrooms at the coordinates 52 and 34.
3. Machinist’s Guage is next to a doorway at the coordinates 46 and 29.

2) The Weight of the World

You’ll also start the The Weight of the World quest by speaking with Machinist Kittrin in his workroom in Gundargaz in the Ringing Deeps at the coordinates 48 and 33.

Quest objectiveHow to complete
Collect Machinist Kittrin’s Calibrated Weight.Defeat the Oath-Eater under the bridge in the Shimmermists at the coordinates 44 and 31. Loot the Calibrated Weight from the Oath-Eater.

3) Reforged Purpose

This last quest, Reforged Purpose, can also be accepted by speaking with Machinist Kittrin in his workshop.

Quest objectiveHow to complete
Help Machinist Kittrin reforge and rededicate the tools.Pick up the spattered charcoals that fling to the ground as he’s reforging his tools. Keep picking them up until you get 100 percent for the quest objective.

When you turn in the quest, you’ll complete the Broken Tools questline and have completed that objective for unlocking the Allied Earthen Race.
