WoW Wrath Classic was released on Sept. 26, 2022, and although the game didn’t have many changes from its original version when it launched, it has evolved immensely. One of the biggest features that came to WotLK Classic over time has been Titan Rune dungeons—specifically, Gamma dungeons.
Titan Rune dungeons are a way to get catch-up gear in WotLK Classic, especially if you plan on tuning in further into the expansion, and the latest addition includes Titan Rune Defense Protocol Gamma dungeons.
Here’s a breakdown of how Titan Rune Defense Protocol Gamma dungeons work in WoTLK Classic.
What are Gamma dungeons in WoW WoTLK Classic?
Titan Rune dungeons are, in a nutshell, a Heroic+ version of your old favorite dungeons featured in WoTLK Classic but with a modern spin. They are quite similar to Mythic+ dungeons from the retail version of the game but don’t come with a timer. All mobs, including bosses in Titan Rune dungeons, have additional health, deal more damage, and even come with certain affixes that make it more challenging. Gamma dungeons are the pinnacle-level challenge for the Titan Rune dungeon system, and properly reward players looking to tackle them.
Titan Rune Defense Protocol Gamma dungeons are modified versions of the same dungeons from WoTLK, but in Gamma dungeons, damage dealt by bosses and trash packs is increased by 70 percent. For your efforts in WotLK Gamma dungeons, you have a chance to earn Defiler’s Scourgestone, a currency used to buy item level 245 gear from the Trial of the Crusader 25-player raid.
This type of dungeon is slightly different than Titan Rune Alpha and Beta dungeons because of the affixes, but the underlying principles remain the same. So long as you clear the dungeons, you’ll be able to earn Defilier’s Scourgestones, which you can then use to purchase gear of your choice in Dalaran.
To activate Titan Rune Gamma dungeons in WotLK Classic, interact with a device at the dungeon entrance, and once activated, it will make all mobs in that dungeon significantly stronger.

Are The Halls of Reflection, The Forge of Souls, and The Pit of Saron Gamma dungeons in WoW WoTLK Classic?
In theory, The Halls of Reflection, The Forge of Souls, and The Pit of Saron dungeons are Titan Rune Gamma dungeons. They give the Titan Rune Gamma loot and Defiler’s Scourgestones.
The only difference is these dungeons didn’t undergo any difficulty and mechanics changes. These dungeons are just the Heroic dungeons but give Trail of the Crusader gear.
Gamma dungeons in WotLK Classic, summarized
Gamma dungeons are some of the toughest challenges available in WotLK Classic. The increased level of difficulty thanks to extraneous parameters makes Gamma dungeons tougher to climb than traditional instances. For WotLK Classic players who might be migrating over from retail WoW, these dungeons are similar to Mythic+ dungeons, as they increase the amount of damage and HP each boss and mob has.
Gamma dungeon core features and rewards in WotLK Classic
- 70 percent increased damage and HP for all mobs and bosses.
- A chance to earn Defilier’s Scourgestones and catch-up gear during each run.
- Players who complete all Gamma dungeons will earn the Arfus pet.
It’s worth it to complete all Gamma dungeons in WotLK Classic if you’re someone who’s interested in collecting pets, as Arfus, the new ghost dog companion, is available for players who dedicate themselves to the challenge.
Relatively high-end loot catch-up loot is also a major reason why you should be running not just your main, but most of your dungeon-ready alts through Gamma dungeons before WotLK comes to a close.
