A Team Envy Overwatch player left the roster mid-tournament in 2016—the team, then participating in the OGN Overwatch Apex tournament in South Korea—had to little time to find a replacement. Now he’s coming back to the organization.
Rolle “Talespin” DuPree Jr. left Team Envy in November 2016 over issues inside the team itself, the DPS player said after his departure. He’ll join Team Envy in Overwatch Contenders alongside five former EnVision Esports members: Casey “Buds” McIlwaine, William “Crimzo” Hernandez, Anthony “Fire” King, Bryan “iShiny” McCarthy, and Caleb “McGravy” McGarvey.
The team posted an announcement on Twitter on July 2.

EnVision disbanded in late June due to frustrations with Blizzard and the Overwatch Contenders league itself, team owner Artur Minacov said. EnVision has been competing in Overwatch since 2017, most recently with a top four placement at the Overwatch Contenders 2018 tournament for North America. Placement in that tournament qualified the roster for Overwatch Contenders season two.
Overwatch Contenders in North America kicks off on July 3. Team Envy’s first match is scheduled for July 5 at 7:45pm CT.
Team Envy’s Contenders roster will act as an academy team for the Overwatch League’s Dallas Fuel. A new rule implemented in mid-June allows Overwatch League teams to have “crossover” players with its Contenders team. There are plenty of rules in place, however. Two-way players will count on the Overwatch League’s 12-person roster and cannot compete in more than two Overwatch League matches per stage or face losing their Contenders eligibility. Team Envy has not said whether any of these players will act as two-ways on the Dallas Fuel.
