The festivities for Fortnite’s seventh birthday are in full swing with lots of special items available to collect around the map and through completing quests. One of these special event items is the Firework Flare Gun.

This explosive weapon is both festive and highly dangerous, which makes it a valuable tool to have in combat. If you’re hoping to try it out for yourself, you need to know how to get and use the Firework Flare Gun in Fortnite.

The Firework Flare Gun can be obtained by opening Birthday Presents and chests as well as picking up floor loot and supply drops in Fortnite. Although you can find it through all of these methods, I’ve personally had the most luck finding the Firework Flare Gun as floor and chest loot.

The Firework Flare Gun can sometimes appear in presents alongside the Birthday Medallion according to a blog posted by Epic Games, but Birthday Presents are fairly rare and the Firework Flare Gun isn’t a guaranteed drop, which makes this a generally unreliable method. If you do want to try finding one in Birthday Presents, you can find them all around the map as chest loot, floor loot, supply drop loot, and any other loot method you can think of.

If you want to find this weapon using an easier looting method, I recommend landing at a POI that’s packed with chests you can open. This includes locations like Reckless Railways, Sandy Steppes, Castle Doom, and The Underworld.

To increase your odds of success, consider also choosing a spot that was introduced in a previous season since you know most players aren’t likely to visit there. This includes areas like Mount Olympus, Brutal Beachhead, and Brawler’s Battleground. Otherwise, be ready for a fight.

As you work your way around a location to open chests, be sure to scan the floor too. This weapon glows blue since it’s Rare, so anytime you see a blue item, walk up to it to see if it’s the Firework Flare Gun you’re after. I’ve found this weapon quite a few times, and the vast majority of the times I’ve found it was as floor loot I spotted from afar.

The Firework Flare Gun functions just like any other gun but with an added special power when you shoot. This special ability marks all nearby opponents within a 50-meter radius for 60 seconds by firing it. You can use it to deal damage against enemies, reveal any opponents who are hiding nearby, and to set fire to wooden structures and objects throughout the map.

This function works pretty similarly to Emma Frost’s Medallion and hireable NPCs like Artemis which means that a grid-like effect covers the nearby map area and a red diamond appears above any enemies who are within the radius for a short time. The difference is that you only have six shots to work with before the gun vanishes from your inventory since it counts as a consumable, so make sure your shots count.

While you have a Firework Flare Gun in your inventory, be sure to complete the birthday quest associated with it. You need to reveal players by setting off fireworks with the Firework Flare Gun for this task, so just point and shoot when you know there are players nearby to get it done. Be sure to also wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday so you can get closer to claiming all of the birthday rewards.
