Mei’s best voice line was a cute accident

Oops!

“Sorry! Sorry, I’m sorry. Sorry!”

Mei’s apologetic Overwatch voice line is perfect for plenty of situations: She’s one of the only heroes who can say they’re sorry when they’ve made a mistake, but it’s especially good for trolling, too. But apparently, it was born of a recording accident made by Mei voice actress Zhang Yu—who appears to be just as apologetic as the Overwatch climatologist.

“The actress just made a mistake and was saying ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry,'” Chu said during a panel at the Tribeca Games Festival over the weekend, as reported by Polygon. “And I turned to the engineer and asked, ‘Did you get that?’ And he was like, ‘Yep,’ and I was like, ‘Send that to me.'”

Like with plenty of Mei players, Chu’s favorite voice line is the chorus of “Sorry.” Though it’s got a variety of uses, I think we can all agree it’s best used after a particularly skillful kill.

Because of Overwatch’s unique storytelling, its voice lines are particularly important. Just one voice line can convey so much information about a hero, just like Mei’s “Sorry” does. The duality of this line is a reflection of fan perception of Mei—she’s a little shy, but totally a troll.
