New Overwatch comic follows Tracer’s introduction to Overwatch

We get a peek of early Genji, too.

Blizzard’s new Overwatch comic Uprising is now available on motion comic site Madefire—and it’s really good. An omnic extremist group is attacking the city of London seven years prior to the current timeline, but Overwatch can’t do much about it. After being banned from activity by the British prime minister, Overwatch’s Strike Commander Jack Morrison, alongside healing sniper Ana Amari and Blackwatch leader Gabriel Reyes—who will later be known as Reaper—can only sit back and watch or face the legal consequences. A new Overwatch recruit, however, convinces Morrison that the team has to do something. It’s Lena Oxton, who’ll later be known as Overwatch’s Tracer. In her training session, we also get a peek at early Genji before he’s got his full mechanical ninja suit.

Morrison—you likely know him as Soldier: 76—decides to break the rules and send in the core Overwatch group: Reinhardt, Mercy, Torbjörn, and Tracer. Uprising is a look into the first moments that Tracer joins the core group, even cluing in readers on how she got her catchphrase, “Cheers, love! The cavalry’s here!” Behind the scenes at the Overwatch HQ, Blizzard is also hinting at the beginnings of Reyes’s dissent, highlighting his disdain for Morrison as a leader.

The comic ends just as the small Overwatch team boards a plane from Switzerland to the United Kingdom. It’s likely April 11’s King’s Row Uprising event will pick up where the comic left off. Plus, there’s a huge potential for a whole bunch of early Overwatch hero skins.
