F.C. Barcelona star Gerard Piqué is hiring esports professionals for a secret project

The soccer player revealed more details on his esports project.

Gerard Piqué promised a big esports project last month. Now, his plans are taking shape. The Spanish center back for soccer club F.C. Barcelona has revealed a project called eFootball.pro and is seeking esports professionals to join him and “create the future of football in esports!”

The website doesn’t tell much about Piqués concrete plans, but lists four open positions, whose descriptions reveal at least something about the project. Piqué is looking for an esports team manager, as well as marketing, sales, and event staff with esports knowledge.

All job descriptions read that it’s “a project that combines two of our passions: football and esports.” Unfortunately, that’s it when it comes to the project itself. Other than that, the jobs have expected requirements such as proven work experience in the respective field, esports market knowledge, and a passion for soccer and esports.

Piqué revealed his intentions to join esports while on the Spanish morning program “El Món a RAC1“, on Feb. 22. It’s hardly surprising Piqué chose to stick with a genre he’s familiar with: soccer. While he didn’t explicitly name a title, it’s likely that we’ll see the 30-year-old build his project around a soccer simulator like FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer.

That said, all hopes that Piqué would go the extra mile and commit to more than virtual soccer—buy a League of Legends team, for instance—are dashed, at least for now. But who knows? Maybe the likes of FIFA and PES actually function as gateway drugs, like esports veteran Paul “ReDeYe” Chaloner argues, and he gets hooked some day.
