Worlds Prize Pool Reaches Over $5 Million

With a little love from the fans, the League of Legends Worlds prize pool hits a mouth-watering amount.

Earlier today, Riot Games announced that the 2016 Worlds prize pool has reached $5.07 million, thanks to the support of the fans. The way in which fans have contributed to this amount is by purchasing the Championship Zed and Championship ward skins. Twenty-five percent of each purchase was added to the prize pool, and fan contributions have accounted for more than half of the total prize pool, which is remarkable when you consider how much the prize pool could have been if 50 percent of each purchase was added to the total.

For those who are unsure on how this will be divided between teams, here’s a quick overview:

  • 1st place: 40%
  • 2nd place: 15%
  • 3rd/4th place: 7.5% each
  • 5th-8th place: 4% each
  • 9th-12th place: 2.25% each
  • 13th-16th place: 1.25% each

This means whichever team comes in first will be taking home approximately $2.03 million, which could potentially be $405,600 each. Obviously, money may be distributed differently throughout the team, but regardless, that is a lot of money. Having such a huge prize pool will definitely up the stakes, so expect to see every player playing like their lives depend on it. The League of Legends Worlds final will be between SK Telecom T1 and Samsung Galaxy, and begins tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. PDT (Pacific time). Make sure to stay tuned for one of the most epic finals yet.
