When Blizzard announced that the closed beta for its upcoming shooter Overwatch last week, European fans were left in the lurch.
The closed beta, which begins on Oct. 27, was initially revealed to only include a North America release, with a date for Europe to be announced. But today, Blizzard assuaged European’s angst by announcing its beta will in fact start on the same date in Europe thanks to the company completing server setup “sooner than anticipated.”
Of course, the closed beta is still just that—closed. The initial beta run will only feature an “extremely limited” list of players. If you aren’t one of the lucky few, though, you may still get your day in the sun: Blizzard will host Beta Test Weekends in the future open to a wider list of players.
The date of the first beta weekend still remains to be seen, but European fans can take solace that, whether they get in the closed beta now or must play in the weekends later, they won’t have to wait any longer than their American counterparts to try Blizzard’s new shooter.
