The Overwatch League and Twitter announced a multiyear content deal that will bring “highlights and livestream content” to the social media platform.
The deal, which was announced on Aug. 23, starts with the Overwatch League All-Star Weekend from Aug. 25 to 26 in Burbank, California. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Overwatch League or Twitter.
Twitter will broadcast “near-real-time video highlights” throughout the All-Star Weekend, a format that will continue through the length of the deal. For the Overwatch League’s second season in 2019, the league’s weekly preview show, Watchpoint, will be streamed live on the Overwatch League Twitter account. The show focuses on statistics, match predictions, and analysis from the Overwatch League’s casters and hosts. Likewise, “near-real-time highlight clips” will continue to be broadcast on Twitter throughout the second season for all regular season, playoff, finals, and All-Star Weekend matches.
“Twitter is where Overwatch League conversations happen and we’re thrilled to bring more content to the platform for several years,” Twitter gaming partnerships head Rishi Chadha said in a statement. “Overwatch is one of the most tweeted about esports leagues on the platform, and this partnership will bolster that conversation.”
The streaming service has similar deals with Activision and ESL. In April, Twitter announced that Activision would stream highlights and Championship Sundays matches for the remainder of the 2018 season, which ended on Aug. 19 with the 2018 Call of Duty Championship. Twitter also announced at the same time that it had renewed a deal with ESL for the ESL Intel Extreme Masters series to bring “more than 700 hours” of content to Twitter.
Overwatch League’s All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26 at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles in Burbank, California.
