Overwatch’s newest hero is not only Reinhardt’s squire and Torbjörn’s daughter, but a master in armor construction.
Brigitte is a tank-like support hero that’s designed to shield her allies with her fierce, protective playstyle. Blizzard’s patch notes leaked a little early on the Overwatch forums, but she was added to the PTR shortly after. Her origin story and a Developer Update from Jeff Kaplan are now live as well, where we’re able to learn a little bit more about how she came to be.
Brigitte’s tinkering experience came from working alongside her father in his shop, which proved helpful when she became Reinhardt’s squire. Traveling alongside Reinhardt, who is also her godfather, Brigitte vowed to protect him with armor. And when armor wasn’t enough she joined the battle to protect others alongside Reinhardt.
Her abilities, which are a combination of tank-like protection and damage as well as healing shots, are indicative of her protective mentality—and somewhat reminiscent of both Torbjörn and Reinhardt. She’s sure to shake up the meta, as any hero will, and could be exactly what Overwatch—the game and the in-game team—needs right now.
