Christopher Garcia, a cosplayer who creates costumes under the name Broken Blade Workshop, was in the BlizzCon 2018 audience when the Ashe cinematic, Reunion, debuted. It wasn’t Ashe or Echo that immediately intrigued him; like many others, it was B.O.B.—and Garcia knew he had to do something.

“I immediately fell in love and was hoping to build him,” Garcia told Dot Esports. “Funny, my original thought was, ‘I’ll build him later,’ and all of a sudden, here we are as everyone’s favorite Big Omnic Bodyguard.”

Ashe’s large pal took Garcia three weeks to put together, finished right at the tail end of 2018. It was a new challenge for Garcia to create a larger-than-average build for him to wear. He noted that the helmet was “super complicated” to put together, but the biggest challenge was B.O.B.’s arms, which are, of course, huge.

“I wanted to be [able to] articulate the fingers so they would move along with mine, but I had literally no idea what I was doing,” Garcia said. “But luckily fellow cosplayer tomvdcr pulled through and taught me how to build some decently sized hands since he’s done this amazing power armor from Fallout 4. B.O.B. can wave hello because of him.”

Garcia also had to pull together an extra-large vest for B.O.B., hand-sewn with fur trim and gold details. But B.O.B.’s most special detail of them all? His tiny bowler hat that sits atop his Big Omnic head.

“[The B.O.B. cosplay is definitely one of my favorite things that I’ve done,” Garcia said. “Being able to wow people and see their smiles is just absolutely my favorite thing.”
