Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a rousing success, becoming one of the most-played games since its release on Aug. 3. Today, Aug. 6, it went one step further by breaking into the all-time top 10 for concurrent players on Steam.
Just three days after its full release, BG3 has already soared into ninth place for all-time peak players on Steam, according to SteamDB. This achievement is even more impressive when you look at the competition it’s up against, with the likes Apex Legends, Fallout 4, and Grand Theft Auto V all having lower all-time peaks on the platform. SteamDB is currently reporting BG3‘s peak to be over 814,000, putting it in ninth place, just below Hogwarts Legacy.
Other games in the top 10 for peak concurrent players include PUBG, Dota 2, and CS:GO. With so much early momentum, it wouldn’t be surprising to see BG3 surpass Hogwarts Legacy and New World in the coming days before setting its sights on two of the biggest RPG releases in recent memory, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.
FromSoftware’s Elden Ring has a peak on Steam of 950,000 players, while SteamDB has Cyberpunk 2077 just above it with over one million concurrent players at its peak.

While this is an impressive record, it’s important to note that some of the games mentioned are also available on other platforms or launched on console at the same time as their full release on PC and Steam. Baldur’s Gate 3‘s full release is currently only available on PC, meaning that the player base is concentrated on Steam. Either way, this record is impressive for a game that launched with significantly less hype than many of the names that it has now surpassed.

If you’re waiting for a console release before getting stuck into BG3, the PS5 launch is set for September 6, 2023. Unfortunately, Xbox players may have to wait even longer, with no official launch date on the horizon.
