Modern Warfare 3 has arrived and with it comes an assortment of new weapons and gear to discover and unlock. However, one must not overlook the weapons from Modern Warfare 2 that were ported over from the prequel.
Of the many guns that transcended past CoDs like MW2, one submachine gun is proving the king: the VEL 46. Here’s our recommended loadout, attachments, and class setup for the VEL 46 SMG in MW3.
The best VEL 46 loadout and class setup in MW3
Best attachments for VEL 46 in MW3
- Muzzle: HMRES Mod Suppressor S
- Underbarrel: SK Skeletal Vertical Grip
- Optic: MK3 Reflector
- Rear Grip: Schlager Soldier Grip
- Magazine: 50 Round Mag
Mobility and reload speed are the name of the game when it comes to the best attachments for the VEL 46 in MW3. Whereas we focused on building out the gun’s range in MW2, here we’re sacrificing mid-range consistency for a faster “hit and run” style of weapon and gameplay.
There are a couple of change-ups you can make here surrounding the optics. You can easily choose a preferred red dot or holographic sight, but I personally like to use the MK3 Reflector on the majority of my short-range precision weapons. Another alternative is to drop the 50 Round Mag for a different stock, but you may be eating a little too much into your handling doing this.
Best class setup for VEL 46 in MW3
- Secondary Weapon: Your choice of sidearm, preferably with fast draw capabilities.
- Vest: Assassin Vest
- Tactical: Stun Grenade
- Lethal: Semtex or Thermite
- Gloves: Commando Gloves
- Boots: Covert Sneakers
- Gear: Tac Mask
I chose the Assassin Vest which, when paired with your suppressor and Covert Sneakers means you’re practically invisible and won’t have to contend with UAVs or other location-detecting equipment. We’re sticking with the tried-and-true Stun Grenade plus your choice of grenade—I’m rocking the Semtex in almost every case.
Commando Gloves and Tac Mask are essential, granting incredible reload speed to your SMG and allowing you to ignore status effects from stuns and flashes, which I found were more common than explosive damage from ‘nades. If you’re finding you are getting blown up a little too much, consider a swap to EOD Padding.
