While most fans are looking forward to the Call of Duty World League Dallas Open this weekend, there’s also another CWL LAN event set to take place the following week.
The Northern Arena Showdown is an eight team double-elimination CWL tournament taking place from Dec. 16 to 17 at the Imperial Theatre in Montreal, Canada.
While the tournament was originally announced on Nov. 7, we now know the four teams that have earned a direct invite to compete at the Northern Arena Showdown, which will feature a $30,000 prize pool and 15,000 pro points.
Luminosity, eUnited, Team Kaliber, and Enigma6 have been invited to participate. The last four teams that make it to the tournament will be decided based on their performance at this weekend’s CWL Dallas Open. If Luminosity, eUnited, Team Kaliber, and Enigma6 place in the top four at Dallas, the next highest-placing teams will earn a spot in the Northern Arena Showdown. If there’s a tie at CWL Dallas, the tiebreaker for qualification will be determined by the team’s total pro points.
At first, it seemed like Northern Arena was going to invite the four North American teams with the most pro points, leaving out top squads like Splyce, Team Envy, and many others. But many fans were absolutely stunned when Enigma6 was invited to participate in this tournament instead of OpTic Gaming. Any team that wasn’t invited, however, will get the chance to prove they belong at the Northern Arena Showdown with a high placing at CWL Dallas.
Many players have publicly voiced their opinions on an invitational event giving out CWL pro points, which are crucial for qualifying for the CWL Pro League in 2018. Even though some professionals may disagree with the system, the Northern Arena Showdown will undoubtedly have some great Call of Duty action.
The CWL Dallas Open begins this Friday, Dec. 8, while the Northern Arena Showdown is set to take place a week later, starting on Dec. 16.
